5G – Let’s get talking!

5G logo

In the next coming months 4G will rapidly become a distant memory or a sly ‘oh you’re still on 4G’ comment between friends. On it’s release in 2012 it was set to pave to way for faster download speeds producing a higher quality of audio and visual data. Today 4G is out of date and in desperate need of a 60 minute make-over, or should we say 6 seconds!

Introducing… 5G

Speeds

With the latest fifth generation technology download, and upload, speeds are set to be a great deal faster. Testing has shown that while it’s predecessor 4G reaches speeds of 45Mbps (Megabits per second) 5G is coming in with speeds of 1Gbps (Gigabit per second). Putting it into perspective… To download a film using 4G would take approximately 1-2 minutes; if your conditions were outstanding. With the new 5G network that time would be cut down to 5-10 seconds!

Coverage

As a society we are becoming increasingly dependent on being able to communicate 24 hours a day. Video conferencing, group chats and file sharing are now simply a way of life and not just in the business world. 5G enables all those connections to be stable, ensure a wider coverage and be first-rate quality. But how? 5G has been designed for a higher capacity of devices to use it all at one time. 4G is now encountering a great issue with latency. 5G enables devices to communicate at speeds far higher and is able to sustain extremely low-latency connections.

Not just for mobiles…

5G will not just ensure the future of your mobile device it will also open the door for autonomous vehicles that can communicate with each other seamlessly, healthcare machinery to monitor patients or assist precision surgery, enable wider use of remote device control in high risk situations and support public safety and infrastructure such as street lights, drainage and public works. 5G is set to transform tech!

Is this the end of fixed lines?

Simply… No! Businesses have invested far too much money in copper and fibre cabling in order to end its use. For offices and domestic premises fixed line services will be used for years to come. Why? Human beings still hold faith in what they can physically see and touch. This stability will continue to remain prominent for the foreseeable future.

When will it be available?

When can you get your hands on this revolutionising technology; 2019, 2020? Well, lets just say we do not want to rush it’s release. The build up is becoming a major event in itself so it’s only fair to say the consumer will want the best results as soon as they switch their device on. Will its release display a clear drain on battery life or bring to light coverage issues not seen during trials?

5G is set to shape a communicative future we are yet to enter. Do we rush it to please the consumer or do we wait to ensure it is as revolutionary as they say?
